Welcome to The Rowans

The RowansFounded in 1936 The Rowans is an Independent Co-educational Preparatory School for children aged 3-8 yrs old. In September 2002 The Rowans was acquired by King's College School but retains its independence on a separate site.

The school is in a large private house in Drax Avenue, a quiet road off Copse Hill, Wimbledon. There is supervised parking available and a drop-off facility for older children. There is a very large well equipped playground in the gardens, together with a Techotile surfaced area within the grounds, comprising either: four short tennis courts; or six-a-side football; or netball / uni-hockey pitches. The Nursery has its own self-contained garden and play area.

The Rowans provides an enabling environment so that these vital early years of education will be fun, at times challenging, whilst bringing out the best in every individual child, thus preparing each child for future learning.

This year, 2008/9, children at 7+ and 8+ achieved places at the following schools:
Boys - Donhead, Feltonfleet, Homefield, King's College Junior School, Newland House, Rokeby and Shrewsbury House.
Girls - Lady Eleanor Holles, Putney High School, Surbiton High School, The Study and Wimbledon School.

Sports Day took place Friday 15th June. The Nursery, Kindergarten and Transition eagerly waited for their races to begin at 11am having been practising their novelty races for weeks.

After a showery week, the morning dawned bright and clear and remained so as proud parents arrived to line the far side of the course.

A Day at the Races
The older Rowans children sat by the track to watch the younger athletes take part in their running races, bat and beanbag, quoits on cones. The children competed energetically and proudly claimed their awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Everyone else received a "good sport" award.

The afternoon event for Years 1, 2 and 3 was in doubt after a heavy shower but eventually the sun appeared again and the races which followed were fiercely contested. The culmination of both events was the Parents' race which this year was the "3-legged race".
